The Wikileaks Chief stole the headlines globally in 2012 when, fleeing extradition to Sweden and then subsequently to the USA, he entered the Ecuadorian embassy in London claiming political asylum. Ecuador granted him asylum despite fierce protest from the British and he remains there even now.
19. Hugo Chavez (President of Venezuela, 1999-Present)
Chavez has had a year of highs and lows. In October, at the polls, he managed to defeat the most unified opposition Chavez has experienced since his rule began. This victory was again cemented the Socialist, Left Wing agenda that Chavez himself had inspired in Venezuela However Chavez has also had a difficult fight against cancer and as 2012 ends his health is yet again international headlines.
