The following is a summary of Iran’s history from 1941-1979. I read the book, Inside the Revolution by Joel Rosenberg, and was fascinated and horrified with how quickly a country can be flipped onto its head. What a difference one year can make.
The facts in my summary below are taken directly from Rosenberg’s book, Inside the Revolution, Chapter 4, We Were Asleep.
In 1943, the shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi met with US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin (leader of the Soviet Union) and Winston Churchill (Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) at a summit in the Iranian capital of Tehran. The leaders came together in order to defeat Adolf Hitler and the Nazi army which was tearing through Europe and the Middle East.
