Arabic, in the Islamic world, is a prestigious language with a prestigious role because the Quran was revealed to the prophet Mohammad orally in Arabic . Likewise, it is a scriptural language since it is the language that the Quran was delivered in. Moreover, Arabic is the vehicle of learning in Islamic civilizations. The role of Arabic in the Islamic civilization has had a monumental impact on various Islamic cultures.

I have tried telling her several times that I am not able to select the songs we listen to in the car, the way I do in our house. We have a mini-van for crying out loud!!! But everyday she asks me the same string of questions over and over and over again.
Finally, by the 4th day of this drill, I just decided it was best to stay quiet for the 5 minute commute from the school to our house.

I haven’t written or posted a gratitude list in a LONG time (just had a look through my tags the last list I posted was almost a year ago) , and I reckon the new year is a good place to start getting in the habit again. I’m also in a pretty bad mood*, and figure that writing a gratitude list will stop me concentrating on the negative and get me focusing on the positive.
•Summertime: Summer has always been my favourite season; the last couple of years, though, it’s been pretty shit (overcast, humid summers with hardly any sun are gross). I don’t wanna jinx it, but so far this summer has been awesome; we’ve definitely had some rainy, overcast, incredibly windy days, but I think the good days have outweighed the bad. A scruffy African-American family stands outside their run-down home while a dapper young man sits up straight in a waistcoat and suit. These are the never-before-seen faces of slavery and Emancipation, revealing families’ lives before and after they were freed.
The images themselves played a key part in allowing the men, women and children freedom – being distributed through the northern states as propaganda during the push for abolition, and employed by former slaves to showcase their new images.
More than 150 of the photographs feature in a new book, Envisioning Emancipation, which has been published to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 on January 1. Most of the images, which reveal what freedom looked like for black Americans in the Civil War era, were taken between the 1850s and the 1930s.
