The temperature has dropped again and this is a disincentive to leaving the house but I did go out because I needed a haircut or, rather, would need a haircut in a week or two but wanted to get it done now before we went on our next trip. The sun was shining, which made the outside world look more inviting but there was a cold breeze that sneaked up your sleeves and down the neck of your coat. Not ideal weather for wandering around taking photos.
When the barber had done his worst, I went for a stroll down Rosebery Avenue. This is where Sir Hugh Myddelton’s New River terminated in what was called, appropriately enough, the New River Head. Here too was where the Metropolitan Water Board had its headquarters. The Board was founded in 1903…
